Kaduna State Foreign Scholarship Award – Available Scholarships
There are currently five (5) main types of scholarship schemes for applicants wishing to apply.
- Merit-Based Foreign Scholarship: They are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
- Need-Based Foreign Scholarship: (Candidates from indigent families) are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
- Disability Foreign Scholarship: (Candidates living with Special Needs) they are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
- Emerging Skills Fund (Merit-Based): They are generally for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
- Sports-Based: (Candidates taking part in Sports for the State), they are generally for Postgraduate students.

- The Kaduna State Government is particular about ensuring that indigent students (poor and needy) have equal access to quality education as a lever to prosperity.

Eligibility
- All applicants must be citizens of Kaduna State.
- Preferably, candidates from indigent families.
- Applicants must possess a minimum qualification. This is to ensure that those selected would be able to successfully complete their studies with ease and within the stipulated time.
- Certificate should not be more than two (2) years old (2017 & 2018)
- The age limit for applicants should be 17 to 20 years.
Requirements
1. MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIP
a. Merit-Based Foreign Scholarship – Undergraduate
- Grade A in at least five subjects and Grade B for the other subjects, including Mathematics and English, taken in WASSCE or NECO in one seating and not before 2017
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be obtained from an approved university before the scholarship award.
b. Merit-Based Foreign Scholarship – Post Graduate
- An undergraduate first-class degree to apply for Masters
- A Masters distinction to apply for a PhD
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be obtained from an approved university before the scholarship award
2. NEED-BASED FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
a. Need-Based Foreign Scholarship – Undergraduate

- Minimum Grade C in at least five subjects, including Mathematics and English in WASSCE or NECO in one sitting and not later than 2018
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be obtained from an approved university before the scholarship award
- ** Make sure your parents (both) urgently get their Tax Certificate immediately
- If any of your parents is dead, make sure you have his/her death certificate in place of their Tax Certificate
- If any of your parents is a peasant or housewife in any of the urban or rural areas, make sure they get a tax certificate even if they earn as low as N100. Tax offices are in every local government area in Nigeria.
b. Need-Based Foreign Scholarship – Post Graduate
- A graduating second-class lower degree or 2.5 of 4.0 for Masters application
- A Masters merit for a PhD application
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be obtained from an approved university before the scholarship award

a. Emerging Skills Fund Foreign Scholarship (Merit-Based) – Undergraduate
- Evidence of Grade B in at least five subjects, including Mathematics and English, and Grade C for the other subjects taken in WASSCE or NECO in one seating and not later than 2017
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be obtained from an approved university before the scholarship award
b. Emerging Skills Fund Foreign Scholarship (Merit-Based) – Post-Graduate
- A graduating CGPA of 4.0 of 5.0 or 3.2 of 4.0 for Masters Application
- A Masters merit grade for a PhD application
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be obtained from an approved university before the scholarship award.
5. SPORTS-BASED FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
a. Sports-Based Foreign Scholarship – Post Graduate
- A letter of attestation from the sports department of your school, a graduating second-class lower degree, 2.5 of 4.0 for Masters application
- A Masters merit for a PhD application
- Candidates can apply without a secured admission, but admission must be obtained from an approved university before the scholarship award
