What is Cut Off Marks?
School cut off marks are the minimum marks you need to gain admission into a particular high school or college. These marks are set by the government and determined on the basis of your performance in school previously. When does a student know whether or not they have passed their cut off marks? A student knows once they pass their cut off marks, they will be able to apply for admission into any other school in Nigeria.
The university cut off mark is the number of marks that a student must have to be able to enter into a university. There are different cut off marks for each course, but they are all based on the passing grades and averages of previous students. A high school student should know how much they need in their grades to get into their top university choices.
How is cut off marks calculated?
Cutoff Mark (For 200) = (Mathematics) + (Physics/2) + (Chemistry/2)
This formula to calculate cutoff is valid for those students who wrote their +2 exams after 2019, when total marks was 600
For example, a student scored the below marks in plus 2 examination
Mathematics – 80, Physics – 86 and Chemistry – 78
Cutoff Mark = (80) + (86/2) + (78/2) = 80 + 43 + 39 = 162
