
GENERAL REQUIREMENT
The University requires five [5] CREDITS, including English Language at Ordinary Level (GCE, WASC, SSCE, NECO and NABTEB) for ALL courses and credit in MATHEMATICS at Ordinary Level for SCIENCE, SOCIAL SCIENCES AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES.
FACULTY OF SCIENCE
Postgraduate Diploma in Pest and Environmental Management:
Admission Requirements:
The following categories would be admissible for the PGD PEM Programme:
B.Sc degree with not less than Third [3rd] Class in Zoology, Agricultural Science, Fisheries, Biology, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology and any related discipline from the Lagos State University or any other University recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University.
An Ed degree in Biology of not less than Third [3rd] class from Lagos State University or any other University recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Higher National Diploma [HND] in Environmental Studies, Forestry, Health Technology, Science Laboratory Technology, Medical Science Laboratory Technology, and any other relevant course.
Applicants must satisfy the Ordinary Level admission requirements as spelt out by the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination [UTME] for undergraduate Biology and related courses.
DURATION:
This programme will run for 2 [two] semesters.
FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES
Department of Management Technology:
M.Phil/PhD Project Management
To qualify for admission into the M.Phil/PhD programme in Project Management, the candidate must possess or meet a combination of the following:
M.Sc degree in Project Management, Project Management Technology, Production and Operations Management, Economics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and other related courses of the Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University not lower than CGPA of 3.50;
Five O’Level credits, to include English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two (2) sittings;
Candidate must satisfy all other conditions as stated in the general regulation governing postgraduate degrees at the Lagos State University.
DURATION:
For M.Phil/Ph.D candidates, the programme shall run for a minimum of eight (8) semesters from the date of first registration;
A period of study and research initially approved for the M.Phil/Ph.D may, following the M.Phil/Ph.D assessment and conversion, be accepted as part of the period of study required for the PhD degree.
PhD Project Management.
To qualify for admission into the PhD programme in Project Management, the candidate must possess or meet a combination of the following:
M.Sc degree in Project Management or Production and Operations Management from Lagos State University or any other University recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University, not lower than CGPA of 4.00;
Candidate with MPhil degree in the discipline listed above with CGPA not lower than 4.00 may be admitted into the PhD programme;
Five O’Level credits, to include English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two (2) sittings;
Candidate must satisfy all other conditions as stated in the general regulation governing postgraduate degrees at the Lagos State University.
DURATION:
The PhD degree programme for all departments shall normally last not less than six [6] semesters from the date of first registration in the case of full-time registration and not less than eight [8] semesters for part-time registration;
No candidate shall be granted part-time registration unless the faculty is satisfied that supervision will be effective throughout the period of studentship.
The studentship of a PhD candidate shall lapse if, after eight (8) consecutive semesters of full-time study, or twelve (12) consecutive semesters of part-time study [or an equivalent period, pro rata for a combination of part-time and full-time registration], a student has not presented himself/herself for the final and required PhD thesis oral examination.
FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE
Department Of Sociology:
1. Doctor of Social Work (DSW)
Admission Requirements:
The criteria for admission into the Doctor of Social Work [DSW] Professional Programme in Social Work shall be as follows:
Meet the general matriculation requirements of admission into Nigerian universities, including English Language and Mathematics. However, matured candidates with not less than ten (10) years of professional working experience but with a deficiency in the O-Level Mathematics requirement may be considered for registration.
First degree in Sociology or other Social Sciences or Humanities [minimum of second class lower of Lagos State University or any other university recognised by the Senate of Lagos State University, Higher National Diploma [HND] with minimum of lower credit in cognate disciplines.
Possess a Master’s degree in Social Work with a CGPA of at least 3.0 on a 5.0 point scale or an M.Sc. degree in a cognate department from Lagos State University or any other University recognised by LASU Senate.
Any other requirements in addition to [i], [ii] and [iii] above, as may be approved by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Areas of Specialisation:
Candidates can specialise in any of the areas of Social Work interest as listed below:
Medical and Public Health Social Work
Community Development Social Work
Industrial Social Work Administration and Welfare Management
Social Work and Ageing;
Gender and Empowerment Studies;
Child and Family Social Work;
Youth and Development Social Work
Rehabilitation and Institutional Social Work;
School/Educational Social Work.
DURATION:
Full-Time: A minimum of 6 [six] semesters and a maximum of 10 [ten] semesters.
Part-Time: A minimum of 8 [eight] semesters and a maximum of 12 [twelve] semesters.
For extension beyond the specified maximum period, a special permission of the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies shall be required.
Master’s in Criminology and Security Studies [MCSS]
Admission Requirements:
The criteria for admission into the Master’s in Criminology and Security Studies [MCSS] Professional Programme shall be as follows:
Meet the general matriculation requirements of admission into Nigerian universities, including English Language and Mathematics. However, matured candidates with not less than 10 years of professional working experience but with a deficiency in O’Level Mathematics requirement may be considered for registration.
